In the News… Florida Inmate Case

RBR recently filed a suit over the 2013 death of inmate Jerry Washington after obtaining information on the events leading up to his death. The Miami Herald is following the case http://www.miamiherald.com/news/local/community/miami-dade/article53402590.html#storylink=cpy

Inmate Jerry Washington was in such fear of being beaten and sprayed with chemicals that he took an overdose of his own blood pressure medication to escape a “campaign of terror,’’ inflicted by officers at Santa Rosa Correctional Institution, a new RBR lawsuit contends.

“Jerry Washington did not need to die. Given his depressed state, he never should have been provided with more than a daily dosage of blood pressure medicine,” said Attorney Paul Rebein of the Rebein Bangerter Rebein law firm. “In addition, once prison and medical staff became aware of his condition, he should have been taken to a hospital immediately.”
